FAQ
Starlink ordering questions, answered from Starlink’s own pages
Grouped by stage of the order, each answer drawn from Starlink’s terms, help center or order pages. Missing yours? The five steps on the home page likely cover it.
What should you settle before ordering?
Where do I order Starlink in the US?
Only on starlink.com, in a phone or computer browser. Its first screen says “Enter your address to see plans and pricing.” Coverage and your plan prices follow from that address, so there is nothing to look up beforehand. Keep the Starlink app for setup once the kit has arrived.
When does the monthly charge start?
Not on order day. Starlink’s US terms of service (read Nov 3, 2026) start the monthly charge at whichever comes soonest: the kit is activated, a week passes after delivery, or 30 days pass after shipping with no delivery date recorded. Work out your own dates.
How does the referral credit work?
What is the $100 referral credit?
Starlink’s reward when a first-time customer orders on starlink.com through a current subscriber’s link. Its help center explains: “You and the person you refer receive the same amount after they have subscribed for two months.” For a US account that amount is $100 each (read Nov 3, 2026), paid as account credit unless the person picks cash where it is offered.
Is it money off at checkout?
No. You pay the full checkout total for the kit, shipping and tax, and the first month is later billed in full too. The help center describes the order as “Sign up with the referral link on starlink.com, pay for the first month, and activate your kit.” Any reward arrives afterwards, on a later invoice.
I had Starlink years ago. Do I qualify?
No. Starlink’s help center leaves no room here: “You must be a new Starlink customer. Existing or returning customers are not eligible.” An old account in your name, even a cancelled one, rules the credit out. You can still order the same way; the walkthrough simply works without the $100.
Can I get it on a Business plan or for my company?
No. Starlink says “Referred Subscribers must be natural persons. … accounts on Priority plans, and Enterprise or Business accounts, don't earn referral rewards.” If the service is for your household, order it in your own name on a Residential or Roam plan.
Does it work in Puerto Rico or Guam?
Not confirmed. The terms say only this: “The Referred Subscriber activates a Starlink subscription with a service address in the same country as the Referrer’s service address.” They never name Puerto Rico, Guam or the other territories, so this site counts the 50 states and DC and treats the territories as unknown until Starlink says otherwise.
Do rented kits count?
Nobody can say yet. The terms read “The Referred Subscriber must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com.” Renting isn’t clearly a purchase, and Starlink hasn’t ruled on it, so check with Starlink first when a rental is all your address offers.
Is it guaranteed?
No. Under the terms, “Final determination of whether a referred customer constitutes an Eligible Referral rests exclusively with SpaceX in its sole discretion and such determination is final and binding.” SpaceX can also change or end the program with 30 days’ notice. Leave the $100 out of your budget until it shows on an invoice.
What happens at checkout?
Is there a code to type?
No. The referral rides in the web address the link opens. When we read starlink.com’s order code on Oct 21, 2026, we found no box for entering a code at any step. Look instead for a green “Referral Code Applied” panel next to Checkout before you pay.
Where must I order so the referral counts?
On starlink.com, in the tab the link opens. Starlink is explicit: “Amounts are only issued for sign-ups on starlink.com. Kits from resellers, retailers, or account transfers are not eligible.” That rules out a kit picked up at Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot, Amazon or any other store on its US retailer list.
What happens after checkout?
When does the $100 arrive?
Starlink gives two answers. The referral terms say the reward is “applied on their second monthly subscription invoice”; the help center says “The amount is issued as soon as 60 days after they activate, depending on your country, settings, and identity check.” In practice, look at invoice two and at the first invoice after day 60. Your invoice dates.
Is the $100 taxable?
It may be, and we can’t give tax advice. Starlink’s terms say only “Rewards are calculated and issued in local currency, exclusive of taxes.” Ask a tax professional how a service credit or a cash payout counts for you.
